Dental Implants in Houston, Tx

What are Dental Implants?

Though a more comprehensive treatment option, dental implants are a lasting solution and permanent replacement for a missing tooth that can restore a healthy smile. Consisting of a titanium base and a crown that mimics the look and feel of a natural tooth, the implant is a sturdy, oral prosthesis that adds durability and renewed strength to the jaw.

What to Expect For Your Dental Implants Procedure

After our team has determined that dental implants are right for you, the procedure will take place in four steps.

1. Extraction and Placement

During the first step of the implant process, Dr. Garza will carry out any necessary extractions of damaged teeth. Removing damaged or decaying teeth will make space for the new implants that will be placed. A titanium implant will be screwed down into the socket that was once occupied by your natural tooth.

2. Healing and Osseointegration

Once extraction and placement of the titanium implants is complete, your gum will require healing over the course of several weeks. Throughout this part of the process, the bone will grow around the implant.

3. Abutment

The third step in the process involves attaching a small piece of metal called an abutment. This metal piece is custom-made to fit your implants and will ultimately be attached to the false tooth. Once the abutment is attached, your gum will require approximately six weeks of healing.

4. Crown Placement

With the last step of the implant process, your crown will be attached to the abutment. This permanent false tooth is customized to look and act like your natural teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a prosthetic solution for missing or decayed teeth. With the look and functionality of a natural tooth, an implant consists of a titanium base that is screwed into the jaw bone and a crown, or false tooth, that attaches to the metal implant.
Who is a good candidate for dental implants?
Individuals with missing teeth may be a candidate for a dental implant. Because the procedure is a comprehensive one that requires weeks of healing, a more thorough consultation with our team at Champions Dental is required in order to determine if dental implants are right for you.
What are the advantages of dental implants versus dentures?
Along with increasing confidence, appearance, and comfort, dental implants have the added advantage of functioning just like your natural teeth. With their strength, durability, and endurance, patients with dental implants are not limited to certain foods and activities. Though dentures can help individuals smile confidently, they can also be irritating and can cause further damage to the jawbone. Furthermore, because dentures are not attached to the bone like dental implants, slipping when eating and talking is a possibility.
Are there risks involved with dental implants?
As with any other surgical procedure, there is always a risk of infection, inflammation, and discomfort. However, we work hard to minimize those risks and make sure you’re as comfortable as possible throughout the healing process.
How much do dental implants cost?
The cost of implants varies depending on a number of factors. The number of teeth being replaced, the necessity of extraction, and the region of the jaw bone will all influence the cost of the procedure. A more detailed consultation with our team at Champions Dental will help us determine the final cost of treatment.
How long does the procedure take?
The dental implant procedure is completed in steps, starting with extraction and placement of the titanium base, to attachment of a metal post, and finally attachment of the crown. Because healing between these steps is required, the procedure usually takes between three to six months.
What is the success rate for a dental implant procedure?
The success rate for a dental implant procedure will vary depending on the health and lifestyle habits of each individual. However, for a patient with good oral health, the success rate is typically above ninety percent.
How do I care for my dental implants?
Maintaining the health of your new dental implants and surrounding teeth and jaw requires the same care you give to your natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings can help you maintain the integrity of your implants.
