Dental Crowns in Houston, Tx

What are Dental Crowns?

A crown is a dental solution that is carefully made to look and feel like a real tooth. When a tooth undergoes damage, whether it be a chip, crack, or decay, a crown can be constructed as a perfect fit that restores the strength and appearance of the tooth, while protecting it from further damage. Crafted from porcelain or another highly durable material, such as resin, a dental crown is a solution that can revitalize your smile and last for years.

Whether your goal is to fill gaps, correct misshapen teeth, or cover cracked, chipped, or stained teeth, dental crowns are an affordable dental treatment that pave the way to a fuller, more beautiful, and healthier smile.

Dr. Amanda Garza’s Take on Dental Crowns

Dental Crowns Video Transcript

Hi, my name is Dr. Amanda Garza and today’s topic is “Crowns”. Here are some reasons why you may need a crown. You have a cavity that is too large for filling or you have a cracked, worn down or weaken tooth or if you have a root canal done and now the tooth needs protection from fracture or if you have a discolored or badly-shaped tooth that you’ll like to cover to improve your smile.

So, what is the process? First, your dentist prepares the tooth to make adequate space for the crown, any cavity on the tooth is removed and if additional structure is needed to support the crown, then your dentist may build up the core of the tooth. Then an impression is made with either a mold or a digital scan of your tooth. Then you may get a temporary crown while you wait for the permanent crown to be ready in about two weeks, and finally when the crown is ready, the dentist pre-sets it in your mouth and makes the necessary adjustments and it is cemented into place. So, be sure to take care of your teeth that have crowns to avoid any cavities or damage to your crown. Thank you for joining me.

Dental Crowns Procedure

What to Expect During Your Dental Crowns Procedure

Your dental crown procedure will start with a visit to Champions Dental that is all about preparing your tooth for the perfect crown. After a local anesthetic is applied to the tooth and surrounding tissue, existing tooth decay and damage will be removed and the tooth thoroughly cleaned. During this time, a thin layer of the tooth’s enamel will also be shaved in order to make sure your future crown sits flush with the rest of your teeth.

Once this part of the procedure is complete, an impression of your tooth will be made and sent to the dental lab where a custom-made crown will be crafted from porcelain. Following the impression, a temporary crown will be placed on the tooth while we await the arrival of your newly crafted crown. During a second visit to Champions Dental, our team will place your customized crown, check for a perfect fit, and polish it off for a natural look.
